Overflow hosted the first Table Talks event around our new community table with an intimate coffee tasting exploring the nuances of three different beans.
Kari began her coffee journey at the age of 14 when she asked her dad if she could try a cup of coffee. He responded, “only if you try it black, that way you know if you really like it or not.” Kari’s love for coffee started with habit, grew into love, and blossomed into a career. Coffee is powerful in that it brings people from all different backgrounds together. Kari's class sampled three different beans from Ethopia, Congo and Brazil.
Kari asked the class, “what does the smell of coffee remind you of,” as they first smelled each coffee bean, then the freshly ground beans (or dry fragrance), before finally sampling the brewed coffee. One of the ladies was reminded of her mom making coffee on the stove in their kitchen in Romania when she was a little girl.
The night was full of education, fun, conversation and connecting. Along with the coffee tasting, guests were able to sample cookies and treats by Bakes by Kari. Guests also left with a pound of retail coffee.
